I would guess he has had more support and treatment that 99% of other drunks.
Has he ever considered getting a job or having some sort of purpose to his life?

Re: Gazza
He happened to be blessed with an incredible footballing ability but he also has always had a lot of mental health problems that were not dealt with for a long time. It's sad but I can't see him living past another year.

He is/was a drunken wife beating thug. No different to the kind of person who guests on Jeremy kyle on a regular basis. I am afraid I don't feel a lot of sympathy.

Re: Gazza
It's easy to judge but addiction is a terrible thing and the way a person is brought up can also heavily influence the future.

I used to work in the food halls in Harrods in the 90's when he was married to Sheryl. I remember a few occasions when they visited it didn't look a happy union...more like the textbook stereotype of a thick footballer who married a blonde bimbo with her eye on a bread winner to provide financial security.

There is absolutely no excuse for wife-beating though but alcohol can be a terrible thing.

Some people are simply bad drunks and need to stay clear. Gazza never learnt that lesson.

"I wonder where all his ''mates'' are now, such as that fat cunt Five Bellies. Danny Baker and Chris Evans can't be guilt free either".

To be fair when he last relapsed really badly a couple of years ago Chris Evans & a few of his ex Tottenham & England team mates paid to put him through an expensive rehab program in America or somewhere like that but there are only so many times they can keep throwing money at it.

It comes down to him at the end of the day.

I used to feel really sorry for him up until recently

...Now I feel really sorry for the people that have to read about his continuing problems

Re: Gazza
You think that's ''support'', just giving him a few quid? i think he needs more than that. I did say, where are they NOW?

Sorry Hairy H, but comparing addiction to cancer is a bit much.

People always say things like If only they knew how much they were loved well Gazza knows that and he is not dead yet.

Addiction is a bastard, pretty much a tough yet curable cancer that effects the brain and it is difficult very difficult if you are mentally week which sadly many of us are.

Re: Gazza
He has had a lot of love from professional football people and players to the general public and keeps on spurning it the same as George Best did.
I used to feel very sorry for him but now I see him as someone who cannot live without being in the spotlight, and that is just pathetic for someone who was so brilliant.

Re: Gazza
Addiction affects people in all walks of life.

Psychology of a person is the root cause which programs like AA try to deal with but they say everyone has to find their "rock bottom" and for some that is loss of job, fa,ily, money but for others that is death. Sounds like Gazza will be one of the latter :-(
